Hi Guys,

I have a new Netgear R7000 to replace my old TP-Link WDR4900.
I want to use my WDR4900 as WDS client but it works fine only with 2.4GHz and absolutely not with 5GHz.
I tried a lot of things without success.
Is this feature really working with 5GHz?

AC1750 C7 bought It 2 days ago just to establish WDS on 5Ghz,
more than 2 hours spent on different WDS setups and nothing works except of 2.4Ghz

really would like to see very soon any explanation or assurance it will work - otherwise I`m returning it for other manufacturer router that's supporting it.

PS; other unexpected thing is not supporting USB drives larger than 2TB, considering it`s not for bootable purpose. :((

Hi, there.

@Highspeed
Maybe the R7000 doesn't support 4-addr-wds while the TL-WDR4900 only support 4-addr-wds on 5GHz. Check whether there is a WDS option on the R7000, enable it if there is one.
Just found the administrator has post a detailed intro about all kinds of WDS..very detailed..

update: Sorry, guys. I happen to find that I was giving the wrong link. This is the correct link for WDS explanation from forum admin;)

@Deny
Archer C7 is another model, you should create a new thread so others can look into the case and try to help.

Are you using a C7 to wds another C7? What is the hardware version and firmware version? Better check whether you have configured in the right way. If you want to use C7 to wds another router, you don't need to configure wds on both side.
Check posts by @Tobacco in this thread.

I don't see anything on my R7000.
May be it's a Netgear issue, but I have no proof that the WDR4900 WDS mode runs fine with 5GHz.
It's the reason why I'm looking for someone who tested it.

Many thanks to Sabina and Barry from Technical Support !

You have been very helpful when analyzing and reproducing my problem.

What a "beautiful" bug: the 5GHz WDS bridge works, but only with a broadcasted SSID...

As I've never broadcasted a SSID with all the routers I had, it was not obvious to find out...

Yes, very good link !
The WDS functionality gives a huge advantage to the TP-Link products !

From Barry's explanations my understanding is now:
- my Netgear R7000 is 3 addr-WDS only
- my TP-Link WDR4900 is 3 and 4 addr-WDS
- my TP-Link WR1043ND v1 est 4 addr-WDS only
Consequently:
- my WDR4900 works fine with the R7000
- my WR1043ND v1 works fine with the WDR4900
- my WR1043ND v1 doesn't work with R7000
