i have a couple of adapters showing in my network on the power line utility that are not mine, how can i remove them form the utility?

A piece of advice for you.
Pair your powerline adapters or set the same unique network name for them.

So powerline adatpers cannot communicate with each other now?
Reset them first. http://www.tp-link.com/en/faq-312.html
And then, pair them again.

after much resetting and renaming, it has now cleared the rouge units, and the speed is up.
