Can't connect wireless desktop card TL-WN881ND to network TP-Link TD-8960N

Hi, I'm having trouble connecting my wireless desktop card which is a TL-WN881ND Ver: 1.1
http://www.tp-link.com/en/products/details/cat-11_TL-WN881ND.html
to my modem a TP-Link TD-8960N Ver: 4.0
http://www.tp-link.com/en/products/details/cat-15_TD-W8960N.html
The PC can see the networks SSID and when I go to connect it prompts me for a password which I enter but it refuses to connect. TP Links utility software packages kicks up the error "The key maybe incorrect" and windows network connection says "cannot connect to the hidden network" when it can see the SSID and the password is correct.
I have shutdown and powered off all devices. I have tried TP-Links driver and the Atheros AR9287 one for Windows 7 64 bit

I have reset the password on my modem/router. I have disabled all wireless security and still can't connect to the network when it is unsecured and open. I also double checked all the encryption settings before that.
Other devices like my phone and tablet can connect to the wireless network without a problem. I have never been able to connect my PC to the wireless network as I have only just bought the wireless card.
Any ideas what might be wrong? Where to from here?
