Hi All,

I was troubleshooting a WPA 281 set for a friend, his request was that he can move between rooms without dropping connection.

At the moment they are paired aok but he has to connect to a second SSID 'TP-LINK-XXX' network manually on his phone.

I'm not sure I understand how roaming actually works technically.

Is there supposed to be 1 or 2 SSIDs advertised if a smartphone wants to connect to wifi? Does it actually extend the same SSID or is it a separate network?

If 2 SSIDs, it is just a case of setting up the 281 with the same SSID and password as the router (without WPS button)?

A bit confused with this one.

Thanks

his request was that he can move between rooms without dropping connection.

That is seamless roaming which is not supported.
To make Wi-Fi roaming work, you can change wireless name and security settings to be the same as the main router but use different channels for them.

Hi Vivian,

Thanks for this. Very helpful. Could you clarify the below:

- Assuming SSID, security, password are the same on the 2 devices, will I see 2 duplicate SSIDs or only 1?
- Channels - leave at auto or specify different channels for each?

Thanks,

Ed.
