Strange thing with wr-841n

Hi to all,
a few days ago i subscribed a contract with an italian isp. Since modem-router coverage is low and cover only a small part of my house , i decided to buy a router wr-841n to extend wifi signal. Approximately the configuration of my system is showed in the picture below. All the connection was made trough ethernet cable.
The red point is a man with a smartphone that try to connect to internet, dashed line is a door and on the left there is a normal wall. Now the strange thing is that if the man stay on the dashed line or behind the smartphone does not detect any wifi connection, while if the man overcome the dashed line the connection it's ok. Does anyone can explain why this happens?
P.S. the router wr-841 is located in the middle of the wall on the left.
