AXE5400 Wi-Fi 6E Bluetooth 5.3 PCIe Adapter - Losing Internet After Loading a Game In Steam
Hi,
I've boiled down a network issue I'm having to Steam. There's lots of other forums like on Reddit with people having this issue with their WiFi adapter disconnecting from the internet when playing a game on Steam. Anyone know what might be causing this? Note, I have Windows 10.
I've already tried (based on other suggested solutions, but all have not yet worked for keeping the WiFi on while gaming):
- Device manager > Network adapters > Advanced > changing the 5GHz bandwidth from Auto to 20MHz
- Network & Internet Settings > Change adapter options > Properties of my wifi > unticking Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)
- Steam Settings > Library > ticked Low Bandwidth Mode
- An ethernet cable seems to work fine but at much lower internet speeds (due to needing to use extenders to different rooms) and because of the extenders and so many long cables, I'd rather not just opt for ethernet. Point is, my adapter should work.
Some users said that disabling Network Boost in Lenovo Vantage solved it for them - but I don't use that app or anything Lenovo. I do however have an app called ASUS GPU Tweak II that optimizes my PC for gaming (if I manually ask it to) but I can't see anything to do with networks on there. If it's of any use, I have an NVIDIA graphics card, but again I can't see anything to do with networks on the NVIDIA app.
When the internet goes off, Troubleshooting the WiFi turns it back on, but if I'm still in a game it will eventually turn back off. When I am NOT gaming, the WiFi stays on ALL day.
In my Network Adapters in Device Settings my adapter is listed as MediaTek WiFi 6E at 160MHz. My PC does not have a disc function so I had to install drivers for the wireless adapter online for the Archer TXE75E (UN 4) and I have tried reinstalling and updating drivers already, which hasn't solved the issue.
I don't want to conclude it's just a case of buying another WiFi adapter because plenty of others have had the issue with other brands/versions of adapters. Just hoping someone on here knows a lot about adapters and gaming and what might be causing Steam games to kick off the internet.
