WAN light off-cannot log into internet

WAN light off-cannot log into internet

So I'm in a building with internet all over, but I don't know the provider. I have a MacBook Pro, and a TL-WR841N router. When I plug the router in the wall, two lights light up, but the WAN stays off. As such, I can't actually log into the internet. I don't have a modem but to my knowledge none of the other teachers in my building have one, just the laptop and the router. I've been trying to figure this out for almost two weeks, first with an IPTime router and now with a TP-Link. Any help is very much appreciated.
