TL-1043wn in WDS bridge mode

Hello world!
I would like to use the TL-1043WN as range extended. I followed the steps to set up the WDS bridging ( http://www.tp-link.com/us/faq-227.html), but I was unsuccessful. Once all the steps are completed, I can connect to the router wirelessly, but it does not connect to the internet. If I plug in a cable into my computer and one of the LAN ports, I cannot access the router at all - the ipconfig command reveals that no IP address has been assigned to the wired connection at all.
I have been able to do this with a different TP Link router, so I know this is possible - I just do not know what I am doing wrong.
The reason for the exercise is twofold - obviously extending the range and also being able to use the router with a wired VoIP adapter.
Help will be greatly appreciated.
