First of, I would like to mention I have very basic knowledge of how networking works in general. I've been looking at all the threads I could find about this and I couldn't find a solution.

My main router is an Asus RT-AC88U using dual band. It is connected to the internet and everything works fine, wireless as well as wired.

I want to extend the range of the wifi as it is located at the very front of the house (study room) and bedrooms are all the way back so signal is extremely poor.

I have an old router, the TP-LINK TL-WDR3600 which I am trying to use it to extend the range. Everything is connected as per diagram below using this guide: https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/440/. But clients connected to the TL-WDR3600 don't have access to internet.

Some people mentioned it could be a compatibility issue but I don't know how to check if they are. Also saw some mention about 4-address frame format but I'll be honest and say I have no idea what it means.

Asus RT-AC88U (192.168.1.1 / 255.255.255.0)

DHCP ON (range 192.168.1.10 - 192.168.1.200)

2.4 GHz runs on channel 9

5 GHz runs on channel 149

TL-WDR3600 (192.168.1.2 / 255.255.255.0)

DHCP OFF

2.4 GHz runs on channel 9 (WDS Status: RUN)

5 GHz runs on channel 149 (WDS Status: RUN)

If I connect to the Asus router, client can ping 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.2. Can also ping other devices connected on both routers (e.g. printers)

If I connect to the TP Link router, client can ping 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.2. Can also ping other devices connected on both routers (e.g. printers)
