How to extend range of the router ?

I am looking for a wireless router that has an insane range on it. I want to share my wireless internet with my neighbor friend close by. I am having a good router i.e D-Link (DIR-890L/R) . In the research i have seen D-link (DIR-890L/R) review, where it has been called as best long range wifi router. Signals are good at my side but signal strength at my friend side is not good. Although distance in our houses is also not much as we are sharing the same wall.
What would you all recommend? Should i get a new wireless router or there is way to improve signal strength ?
