Just as ajharvey explained, it can't keep parental control work with Access Point mode. I consulted this function before with tp-link and got the same answer.

Deco M5 works at router mode? How is your network topology? Do you connect Deco M5 to another router together? Or they are different networks just with the same subnet?

Becasue of FCC and CE standard, we can't downgrade from EU version to US version. Since it's EU version, we can only upgrade or downgrade between EU versions now.

For the old vulnerability issue, I think we needn't worry too much about that. It seems tp-link has fixed those affected product. You may have a look at this FAQ from tp-link....
