UPDATE: there is no change for my issue. The router continues to not perform TimeMachine backups. I'm just plugging the WD Elements directly into my Mac Mini running Mojave 10.14.6 to do TimeMachine...

Hi everyone, just wanted to say that my issue appeared resolved after they sent me an older firmware AND disabled mediasharing, but toward the end of November the USB drive stopped being recognized...

@bupkis To clarify, I'm on Mojave, and the backup will begin to run, then after a little while (no seeming rhyme or reason to when) the backup will fail, and the router will reboot completely....

@bupkis Exactly the same issue. JUST took delivery of the router yesterday, and the WD Elements 10gig backup drive will get a few gigs thru the Time Machine backup before the entire router reboots....
