Model: EAP225-Outdoor
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.20.0 Build 20200422 Rel. 70543(5553)

Hi,

EAP225 connected to a LAN port on my router, for simplifying our debugging process here is the current setup:

WIFI Router -> (via lan) EAP225 -> My end device (android or laptop)

 - Yes, it got an IP address from DHCP server;

 - Yes, I can connect via web interface;

 - Yes, lastest firmware (1.20.0 Build 20200422 Rel. 70543(5553));

 - Default settings, except that I disabled authentication (to make it easier for our debug);

 - Only 2.4ghz enabled;

 - I can see it on my ESSID list during the scan process;

 - I have tried different channels;

 - I can connect from my Samsung S10 (android), but I fail to connect using my laptop;

When connecting via laptop shows that sends auth to MAC address (the mac is the AP address), and tries 3 times, after that says: "association with 1c:3b:.... timed out".

On AP's admin interface I can see this log message: "Failed to connect to [xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx] with SSID "FOO" on channel 11, because the association times out (1 time in a minute)."

From my Android device, it works just fine. But on my machine it doesn't work.  I have tried different methods for connecting, with different channels.

Any help?

Dear @FelipeDias,

On AP's admin interface I can see this log message: "Failed to connect to [xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx] with SSID "FOO" on channel 11, because the association times out (1 time in a minute)."

From my Android device, it works just fine. But on my machine it doesn't work.  I have tried different methods for connecting, with different channels.

Is the EAP configured and managed by Omada Controller? Did you enable any advanced features such as Fast Roaming, Band Steering, Airtime Fairness or Mesh on the Controller? If yes, you may try to disable the advanced feature for checking.

@Fae no, I'm not using Omada Controller, it is in standalone mode. No advanced features enabled.

Hi @FelipeDias,

I would not disable authentication, and I would enable both radios.

I would:

1) disable band steering and use two separate SSID's (one per radio).

2) set the channels to auto, initially, and use  20MHz only for 2.4, and 80MHz only for 5.8

3) disable airtime fairness, but keep QOS WMM enabled (defaults)

4) enable WPA-PSK.  Use WPA1/2 with AES.  Use an 8-10 character password (alphanumeric but no special charcters)

5) Turn down the radio transmit powers.  Use the custom scale and chose ~18 dBm.

6) I assume the antennas are secured properly?  If you use a Wifi app on your Android phone to scan the Wifi in your area (like inSSIDER).  Do you see the 225-OD?  What signal strength do you see?  If you are close to it, you should see something like -40 to -60 dBM,

7) What country are you in?  Is your 225-OD correct for your country?

There is a new Version 5.0.0 firmware that is rolling out for this device.  But I don't think its on the website yet.  Regardless the version of firmware you have should be fine.

Is your PC Windows, Mac, or Chrome Book?

I have two Outdoor units (both under Omada control) and they've not experienced the issue you're describing.  I have seen a number of folks with Chromebooks have lots of Wifi issues in general -- regardless of the equipment used.
