Hi all,

Apologies but complete novice here. Just had delivered the tp link wireless n router and want to put it in my shed in the garden using a cat 6 cable from my house router. Do I set it up as an access point and if so do I set the IP address the same as my home router?

Thanks in advance

@Curryman

Hey

If you are going to cable it in then Yes. set it in Access Point Mode.  However.. dont use the same IP as your router

Its likely your router will give the AP an address anyways (something like 192.168.0.12) and that will be fine, however if you are going to set this manually set it close to, but not the same as the router.

EG.. Say router is   192.168.1.1    set   AP   as  192.168.1.2     -  Basically change the last number!

hope that helps

Brilliant thanks, do I do anything with the DHCP at all or leave it?

Thanks

@Curryman

On the AP you want it to ideally be a DHCP client (automatically get an address from the router), hopefully that is what you mean..     Just leave it   :)

If it gets an address from the router automatically, then anything connected to it will also..  be easier for you

@Philbert

Great stuff, one more silly question 🙄.

Do I take my cat 6 lead from the WAN port on my house router or just from an ethernet port?

Sorry for the questions

@Curryman

Just an ethernet port for the AP.

The WAN port is for connecting to a Modem or Router for internet access

Dont worry mate, there are no silly questions.
