Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 211011

Hi,

 

I just replaced my old router with a TL-WR820N V2. I have the following configuration:

Internet Modem -> Ethernet Cable -> TL-WR820N WAN Port

TL-WR820N LAN Port -> Ethernet Cable -> PC 

Wifi is On

Operating mode: Access Point

If the PC connects at 100Mb/s and I do a speed test from WiFi I don't get more than 7Mb/s. If I do the test from the PC I get the maximum bandwidth of 50Mb/s. Now if the PC connects at 10Mb/s, then for the same speed test, WiFi gives me approximately 50Mb/s. 

So apparently the speed I get from the Wifi depends on what speed the LAN port connects to the PC. 
Is this normal? Is WiFi bandwith limited by LAN port?

I am sure that the PC does not have any Internet activity, I use Linux and I can see the network activity which is null. But it is solved: It seemed strange to me that sometimes I have 10Mb/s and other times 100Mb/s on the LAN. The problem comes from the side of the RJ45 connector, which was poorly assembled, I changed the cable and now I have 100Mb/s on the PC and now the speed test gives 50Mb/s on the Wifi. But I'm not sure how that bad RJ45 connector have influenced WiFi connectivity. Also I am also realizing that the RJ45 LAN ports for this model are only for 4 wires I guess it is ok for 100Mb/s.

Hi,

 

Ensure that the PC is not downloading any data in the background, while you perform Internet speed tests on other devices.

 

It has happened before that people were wondering why they didn't get the full Internet speed, and later found out that a computer on the same network was downloading large Windows updates. That computer itself is not affected, because Windows pauses the updating when the computer is not idle.

 

Apart from the above situation, the LAN port speed of a connected device should not affect the Wi-Fi speed.
