Model: RE700X
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: Not sure as currently not at home but most recent

Hi all,

Set up a Easymesh nextwork at the weekend at home with a Archer AV1800v DSL router and 2 x RE700x extenders, one being a V1 and the other a V2 ( router is new but the extenders I already had with a older TP-link router that didnt support One or Easymesh).

a. I finally got both the extenders connected as satelites to the router in and Easymesh network but both extenders dont have the 2.4ghz light on and seem to be only connected to the router via the 5ghz signal. If they are used as non mesh extenders the 2.4ghz signal light is on and working.

b. I have some clients connected to the AV1800v via the 2.4ghz signal so I know its on and working.

c. I also have some clients connected to the 2.4ghz signal on the RE700x V1 extender - ( extender shows its connected to the router via he 5ghz only )

d. Also cant remeber which way round it is currently but one of the extenders wifi setings are greyed out as its getting the settings from the router but the other one you can change if I wanted to ( not greyed out ) but both extenders are set up on the Easymesh network.

I did have a lot of trouble setting it all up as Easymesh as I finally had to do it with the WPS buttons as the router couldnt find anything when scanning either through a web page on a laptop or the tether app ( used latop to check everything rather than app on adroid)

Any help would be greatly appreciated or if this is how it is ment towork i.e 2.4ghz link to main router is not used then an answer would be great so I don waste anymore time trying to get it set up any further.

Thanks in advance

Simon

Hi,

Is your Archer AV1800v one of those router models that have the "Band Steering" option in the wireless settings menu?

In case it is and if that option is currently activated, then you could try if switching "Band Steering" off might resolve the issue.

By the way, in my opinion it is not actually a disadvantage if the host connection is fixed to the 5 GHz band, since it offers much greater transfer speeds than the 2.4 GHz band.

When the extenders are part of an EasyMesh network their Wi-Fi settings should be greyed out. Why this is not the case on one of your RE700x extenders I do not know.

And it is normal that TP-Link range extenders cannot be added by having the router scan for devices. Only TP-Link EasyMesh routers can be added that way. For adding extenders the WPS method is the recommended way.

Hi Woozle,

Thanks for the response, just a quick update.

Got home tonight to have another bash at it and this time tried turning the easymesh off, this restarts the extender which then picks up both networks.

Then turned on Easymesh and just the 2.4ghz was used not the 5ghz or both.\rebooted the extender again and its back to the 5ghz signal. This was all on the V1 of the RE700v extender. The wireless connect and extend pages still show the networks NOT grey out and editable. This is all looked at via a web page through my laptop using the individual ip addresses.

The V2 extender wireless pages are grey out but still only 5ghz seems to be picked up from the router.

P.S the Router Archer AV1800v band steering is switched off and has been from the beginning as I read about this issue before I started.

All very anoying.

Hi, welcome to our community.

After confirmation, that is how it works when setting up mesh network between Archer VX1800v and range extenders. Only one band connection is established.

Hi Marvin,

Thanks for the clarification, it would be good if this was documented somewhere to let users know, apologies if it is and I missed it.

The only other strange issue is the fact that the V1 of my RE700x wireless settings when viewed through it's web page are NOT greyed out and can be edited, where  as my V2 RE700v's settings are greyed out.

I'm guessing this is just a version issue and corresponding firmware difference.
