Hello everyone,

 

I am currently moving house and have a fiber optic connection from Deutsche Telekom in my new apartment. So I'm just starting up.
I bought the Archer GE800 and plugged the SFP Zyxel Modem box into the SFP+, which is also certified by Deutsche Telekom and my ISP.
First I registered the SFP ONU stick online with my ISP, which all worked, and I was confirmed that everything was ready for use.

The router lights up red and shows me “No internet connection”.

 

1. The router has an SFP+ interface, the ONU stick only SFP, but that shouldn't be a problem. As far as I know, there is only one SFP stick available from Telekom at the moment. It should be enough for 1000MBits/s.


2. the fiber optic connection in my apartment has an LC/AFC connector, the ONU stick has an SC/APC connector.

3. I have set to dynamic IP, as my ISP does not assign an IP as far as I know.


4. the latest FW is installed

 

How can I check whether the router recognizes and communicates with the ONU Stick?
Do I need to make any other settings?

  @woozle Hi, I spoke to Telekom today, they couldn't really help me, it seems that there is no SFP modem for  third-party router yet.
I bought a Fritzbox 5690 Pro and it works fine.
I will unfortunately send the Archer GE800 back, if there is an SFP modem for third-party router in the future, I will sell the Fritzbox again and then order the Archer GE800.

Hi,

 

If I am not mistaken, Deutsche Telekom always requires the Internet connection to be established via PPPoE, no matter whether it's their DSL broadband or fiber broadband.

 

I would try PPPoE with Internet VLAN ID 7 instead of Dynamic IP.

  @woozle I tried that, but the router wants to have the name and password.
And I don't have that, I took my login details from the homepage, but without success.

The username should be a combination of Anschlusskennung, Zugangsnummer, Mitbenutzernummer and @t-online<dot>de

 

The password you need is called "Persönliches Kennwort".

See if you can get a clue be looking at the System Log of the GE800.

 

1) In the webGUI go to Advanced -> System -> System Log and then click "Clear All" to remove all existing log entries.
2) Go to Advanced -> Internet and click "CONNECT" to initiate the PPPoE connection again.
3) Go back to Advanced -> System -> System Log and read through the newly added messages. Look if you can spot something that obviously doesn't seem right.

I have cleared the system log and reconnected.
I can't read much from the log, unfortunately it doesn't tell me anything.
The date and time are not correct because I have no internet connection.

Perhaps you can tell me what this means.

Normally, in the log of a working PPPoE connection every "pppoe send" message would be followed by a "pppoe receive" message.

 

In your log the Archer GE800 is repeatedly sending its initial "PADI" message, but never receives anything back from the Telekom side.

 

This would point to either a problem with the Zyxel SFP modem or that Telekom has not activated your Internet service yet.

 

I dug a bit around on the Internet about this "Zyxel Digitalisierungsbox Glasfasermodem" and if I understand this correctly it is only somewhat plug&play when used in combination with a real "Digitalisierungsbox" (router) from Telekom, but not a random third-party router like the Archer GE800.

 

I found this page on the Internet https://github.com/xvzf/zyxel-gpon-sfp and it seems getting your hardware to work would be a challenging task.

That is strange,
the instructions that come with the SFP modem only describe the Telekom setup, I bought a Telekom certified modem.

I'll be back in the new apartment the day after tomorrow and will call the Telekom hotline from there.

I'll definitely keep you up to date on how things go.

Or to put it another way, what would be an SFP modem that is Telekom certified and would work?

I took a picture of the first page,
it also says Telekom.
And I also received a message that the connection is now active after setting it up.

If I understand it correctly, this particular "Digitalisierungsbox Glasfaser Modem" you have is designed to be used with either a "Digitalisierungsbox Smart 2" or "Digitalisierungsbox Premium 2" Wi-Fi router, but not any other Wi-Fi routers.

 

This is also indicated under "Beschreibung" in the screenshot of your first post.
