Model: TL-SG1016PE
Hardware Version: V6
Firmware Version: 1.0.0 Build 20240417 Rel.53354

I created a VLAN (WLAN) between TL-SG108PE and TL-SG1016PE and connect SG108PE port 8 to SG1016PE port 16. On the SG108PE, I created the following

- VLAN ->802.1Q VLAN -> 802.1Q VLAN Configuration -> Enable

- VLAN ->802.1Q VLAN -> 802.1Q VLAN Configuration -> VLAN ID = 2 :VLAN Name=WLAN :Port 8 = Untagged

- VLAN ->802.1Q VLAN -> 802.1Q PVID Setting -> Port 8 = 2

- VLAN ->802.1Q VLAN -> 802.1Q VLAN Configuration -> VLAN ID = 1 :VLAN Name=Default :Port 8 = Not Member

On the SG1016PE, I created the following

- VLAN ->802.1Q VLAN -> 802.1Q VLAN Configuration -> Enable

- VLAN ->802.1Q VLAN -> 802.1Q VLAN Configuration -> VLAN ID = 2 :VLAN Name=WLAN :Port 16 = Untagged

- VLAN ->802.1Q VLAN -> 802.1Q PVID Setting -> Port 16 = 2

I can access the SG1016PE switch until I set the following

- VLAN ->802.1Q VLAN -> 802.1Q VLAN Configuration -> VLAN ID = 1 :VLAN Name=Default :Port 16 = Not Member

I created the same on another SG108PE. It works. Is there something wrong with my SG1016PE?

I just got this switch.

To better understand your problem, let me ask "What are you trying to achieve with VLAN2?".  Normally switch-to-switch connections are trunk ports.

I actually have 2 VLANs, WLAN and Internet. WLAN is for my Deco Mesh networks. Internet VLAN is for access directly to internet.

Are you sure the Deco is ready for VLNA?

Or do you mean you config the Deco ports with the matching VLAN?

There is no difference in VLAN. I assume you might be mistaken on SG108E.

The VLANs created is host my Deco network and wired devices to connect directly to the internet. My Deco are connected directly to the TP-Link switches via ports configured with VLAN=2 and PVID = 2. The switch ports are removed from from VLAN 1, as per the reference configuration.

For you information, I have 2 switch configuration. I am trying to upgrade my 8 port switch to 16 port. Can you tell me if the VLAN configuration is done correctly? Currently this configuration works. I cannot get the 16 port configuration to work.

If I have read everything correctly, I see various problems with your configuration:

1.  If port 8 of the SG108PE is connected to port 16 of the SG1016PE, then port 8 of the SG108PE must be configured as a trunk port with the default VLAN untagged and the WLAN and Internet VLANs tagged.  You need to add port 8 as a tagged member to the Internet VLAN.

2.  You need to configure port 16 of the SG1016PE as a trunk port, again with the default VLAN untagged and with the WLAN and Internet VLANs tagged.  You need to add Port 16 as an untagged member to the default VLAN.

3. In the SG108PE, you have ports 1,6,7 as tagged ports of the WLAN and Internet VLANs and the default VLAN is missing.  Unless your end devices understand VLAN tags, this really serves no purpose.  As you already have the PID set to 1, I would make the default VLAN an untagged member of these ports.

4.  You can not have more then 1 VLAN untagged on a port.  The SG1016PE has ports 1 and 4 with two VLANs untagged.  On port 1, you have the PID set to 2 and you need to remove the Internet VLAN from the port or make it a tagged member.  The same applies to port 4, removing the default VLAN.

5. Port 3 of the SG1016PE should include the default VLAN as an untagged member.

6. You never indicated where your main router is connected and I assume that you have it configured for the three VLANs and that it is connected to a trunk port on one of the switches.

Hope this helps!

  @jra11500 I think there is a misunderstanding. I have stacked the existing SG108PE switch to a new SG1016PE and connected port 8 on SG108PE to port 16 on new SG1016PE.

Configuration of SG108PE

Configuration of new SG1016PE

When I remove the Default VLAN port 16 as below

I lose connection to the new SG1016PE switch

  @jra11500 I have tried to connect differently between SG108PE and the new SG1016PE using Tagging. Below is the SE108PE configuration

My SG1016PE configuration

I cannot access the SG1016PE switch using the Easy Smart Utility, but I can access directly using the web browser. Is there something wrong with the SG1016PE switch?

Yes, there is a misunderstanding.  From your initial post and your configuration snapshots, I constructed the following diagram:

Today’s configuration snapshots of the SG1016PE are completely different as shown below:

Let’s try to clear up any misunderstanding.  In your initial post, you stated that you were using two switches, an SG108PE and an SG1016PE.  You stated that they were connected (port 8 of the SG108PE to port 16 of the SG1016PE).

Let me ask you a question.  If you are upgrading the 8 port switch to a 16 port switch, will there be 2 SG1016PE switches connected together OR will the be only 1 16-port switch after the upgrade?  I am confused.

In any case, what you are trying to do will not work as you are trying to configure two VLANs as untagged on port 16.  You can have only 1 untagged VLAN on a port.

Our posts were made at the same time. Please give me a moment to look at your latest configuration.
