Model: Archer C80
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.13.15 Build 240812 Rel.53972n(4555)

Hello,

my Archer C80 is spamming my DCHP request, as it's sending constant request every 20 secondes to 2 domains :  wikipedia.org and amazon.com

it's currently configured as following :

- access point

- static IP

- DNS server : disabled

- led : disabled

it's flooding my dns server and i want it to stop !

i've seen one similar post about this issue

indicating that if the archer is set as access point, with static IP (user has it with dynamic IP initially) it stopped, but on my case it's still going on (he has Firmware Version: 1.10.0 Build 210716 Rel.51301n(4555), which i can't find on my contry region (FR))

any idea, any help would be much appreciated

This is a known behavior in AP mode - it's caused by the Smart DHCP feature.

Make sure that the C80 DHCP server is set to OFF (not Auto).

Hi

thanks for your feedback

yes it is, on my firmware I only have 2 mode for DHCP : enable or diasable, and it is disable :

but still, it's spamming my dhcp server with request every 20 secondes

Apparently this is a matter of firmware release and there's nothing to be done in this case.

Usually this has been resolved by setting a static LAN IP address and turning the DHCP off.

Hi,

yeah , that's what i saw on a similar post. but sadly this solution doens't apply here.

I checked the firmware version he had (1.10) on his side thinking, ok i'll downgrade to the same driver version as it seems to work at that time with that version (post was 3 years old) and the firmware version mentionned on that post simply doesn't exist on my region. (lower i can go is 1.13) And all of the drivers i can access on the support website are signed "EU".

Even TP-link is mentionning to be carefull, to only use those drivers if the hardware has been purchased within my region, if not use this link to change region :  http://www.tp-link.fr/choose-your-location/    but the link is dead, and anyway i don't think using a driver for a different region would help if it's not quite appropriate with the hardware I have.

next stepp : i'll try and downgrade to all of the proposed driver for my region to see if one of them doesn't have this side effect but I have verry low hope.

I created a ticket as well 5 days ago on the TP-link support, still waiting a feedback from their staff.

Have a good one :)

You can determine the FW region by the router bottom sticker - details.

If it happens to be an EU region, then you can download the first FW release (1.11.0) from here.

But I think that this won't help you much, because most probably the downgrade process will fail.

I would rather encourage you to upgrade to the latest FW version (1.14.30) from here.

Then test if there's any improvement. If not follow the ticket instructions from the tech support.

Hi , thank you so much for your implication and help in this !

that's crazy, ticket created on their support 5 days ago, still waiting for a first point of contact, whyle the community is way more reactive and involved ! x)

yes i do have a EU version on the back sticker

i'm using a v2.2 hardware version and my current driver is up to date  (Archer C80(EU)_V2.20_1.13.15 Build 240812) for that hardware version,
the 1.14.30 firmware you mentionned is for the v2 hardware version (i think up to now i didn't prcised yet my hardware version, my bad).

tomorrow i'll try to downgrade to lower versions but i'll be limited with those tests as just one version below  (Archer C80(EU)_V2.20_1.13.2 Build 230824) they mention that after this firmware version you cannot downgrade to lower version. so i'll just chaque what the situation with this one as well.

kinda tempted to try the latest "v2 hardware version " driver update as it's clearly more recent than the last driver update for v2.20 but as this one also mentionned that you cannot downgrade, i'm affraid i won't be able to switch back to the Archer C80(EU)_V2.20_1.13.15 Build 240812 if something went wrong x)

Consider this information on the support page:

"

Vx.0=Vx.6/Vx.8/Vx.9(eg:V1.0=V1.6/V1.8/V1.9)
Vx.x0=Vx.x6/Vx.x8/Vx.x9 (eg:V1.20=V1.26/V1.28/V1.29)
Vx.30=Vx.32/Vx.33 (eg:V3.30=V3.32/V3.33)

That means if you have HW v2.20, then its FW should be the same as with HW v2.

That being said, I would say that you have two options: one step back - to v1.13.2 and one (irreversible) step forward to v1.14.30.

It's your choice to decide which way to go.

Personally, I would go with the latest version since it offers many optimizations:

New Features/Enhancement:
1. Add L2TP/IPsec VPN server functionality.
2. Add IPv6 firewall feature.
3. Add EasyMesh, Auto Update, and TP-Link ID support in AP mode.
4. Optimize static IP and DNS configuration in AP mode.
5. Optimize parental control with content whitelist.
6. Optimize Access Control to allow manual MAC address input.
7. Optimize client list with additional filtering rules.
8. Optimize WDS functionality to support WPA3-SAE encryption.
9. Optimize wireless connection stability.

Bug Fixed:
Security and stability improvements.

Notes:
1. This version upgrade is irreversible and you cannot downgrade to the previous firmware after the upgrade.
