Model: EAP650-Desktop
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

hi everyone,

as per the title I'm getting a strange issue where when I have the Root AP as the EAP 650 desktop, the child AP(eap610) has slow wireless speeds where it crawls down to Ombs.

when I try either my other 610 or 620hd, or behaves normally so not sure if this is a specific to my unit thing or just an issue between the two models on general.

for context rssi is -50 between and the 650 desktop is wired and and the 610 is connected to a sg2008p

Why are you using mesh?  If the EAP650-Desktop is wired and the EAP610 is wired to the SG2008P (which in turn, is wired), then you don't need to have mesh enabled.  It is more of a question of channel configuration and setting the Tx power on both APs.

I'm using mesh to have the 610 downlink to the sg2008p as there's no cable run to the sg2008p (working on it but was trying this out temporarily expecting it to work).

I've tried adjusting channels and tx power but they just done "mesh" together well. I tried the same set up with a new 670 instead of the 650 and it worked as I expected. So not sure why the 650 was causing issues

Understand...  Let's see what the moderators have to say on this issue.  I have 3 EAP650-Desktop APs here and there hasn't been any firmware updates lately which may fix your problem.

Hi  @Jropes

Thanks for posting here.

To better understand the situation, please first help to confirm if I understand correctly:

 "---" means wired connecting, ")))((("means wirelessly connecting

  • Internet--EAP650-Outdoor))(((EAP610--SG2008P,  EAP610 and SG2008P speed is slow;
  • Internet--EAP610/EAP620 HD))(((EAP610--SG2008P,  EAP610 and SG2008P speed is normal;
  • Internet--EAP650-Outdoor))(((EAP670--SG2008P, EAP670 and SG2008P speed is normal;

If yes, please give us the following info:

When testing, did you use the same Ethernet cables, set the mesh to the same channel, and use the same channel width? Did you test wireless speed all on 5G?

If yes, please give us the following info:

>>What speed will you get from EAP650-outdoor, EAP610 and SG2008P respectively? it crawls down to 1 to 3 mbps

Internet--EAP610/EAP620 HD))(((EAP610--SG2008P,  EAP610 and SG2008P speed is normal;

>>What speed will you get from EAP610/EAP620 HD, EAP610 and SG2008P respectively? full speeds at 150

Internet--EAP650-Outdoor))(((EAP670--SG2008P, EAP670 and SG2008P speed is normal;

>>What speed will you get from EAP650-outdoor, EAP670 and SG2008P respectively? full speeds at 150

When testing, did you use the same Ethernet cables, set the mesh to the same channel, and use the same channel width? Did you test wireless speed all on 5G? Since this was a factor i made a new cable and I did find it there was a fault in it delivering power to a 670 but the issue with meshing from the 650 to the 610 still remains.

I ended up switching to using the 670 to mesh to the 610 and have the 650 connected separately via an uplink to the sg2008p downlink instead and getting  the full speeds on all APs now. Still not sure why the 650 has this issue when being the root AP to a 610 but not going that route again so we can close this

Hi  @Jropes

Thank you for your feedback. These two models do not have mesh issues.

Since the speed has dropped to 1-3 Mbps, I suspect that the mesh link may not have been properly established.

At first glance, this could be due to a channel issue. The EAP650-Desktop supports more channels than the EAP610, and I suspect that the EAP650-Desktop's 5GHz band might be operating on a channel that the EAP610 does not support.

If you're willing, you may manually set the EAP650-Desktop's 5G channel to fixed 48 to verify this. Thanks.
