Hi everyone,

I recently started replaying older PlayStation 2 games through emulator setups on my PC and Android TV device, and I noticed that unstable Wi-Fi sometimes causes controller delay, audio lag, and occasional stuttering during online multiplayer or streaming.

I’ve been testing different router settings like QoS, channel width, and bandwidth priorities to improve stability for gaming devices. While searching for setup information and compatibility tips, I also found some useful retro gaming resources like ps2biosonline.com.

At the moment I’m using a TP-Link router and wanted to ask if anyone here has recommendations for the best settings for smoother gaming performance with emulator or Android gaming setups.

Would enabling gaming QoS or changing wireless channels make a noticeable difference for latency-sensitive games?

Here are the recommended settings to help improve your experience:

1. Enable and Configure QoS
QoS (Quality of Service) allows you to prioritize specific devices so they run smoothly even when the network is busy. This is especially useful for latency-sensitive gaming.
• Log in to the router's web interface (http://tplinkwifi.net) and go to Advanced > QoS, or use the Tether app under MORE > QoS.
• Set your gaming PC or Android TV as high priority.
• Make sure the Total Bandwidth you configure in QoS matches your actual subscribed Internet speed for best results.
• Note: QoS is only available when the router is in Router Mode and is not supported in Access Point Mode.

2. Optimize Your Wi-Fi Channel and Channel Width
Interference from neighboring networks can cause instability. Try the following:
• Go to Advanced > Wireless > Wireless Settings and try different 5GHz Wi-Fi channels to find the one with the least interference in your environment.
• For 2.4GHz devices, set the channel width to 20MHz. For 5GHz devices, set it to 80MHz or 40MHz.
• Connect your gaming devices to the 5GHz band rather than 2.4GHz for better throughput and lower latency.

3. Disable Features That May Affect Performance
• Go to Advanced > NAT Forwarding > UPnP and disable UPnP.
• Go to Advanced > Security and disable SIP ALG.
These features can sometimes interfere with gaming performance.

4. Check Router Placement
• Place the router in an open, central location — not inside a cabinet or shelf.
• Keep it away from metal objects and electrical appliances that can cause interference.

5. Transmit Power
• In Advanced > Wireless Settings, make sure Transmit Power is set to High to ensure strong signal coverage.
