I have an HS103 that regularly disconnects. One time I saw a power glitch followed by the disconnect, so the problem may be related to something on the power line. My HS103 is plugged into a UPS and the UPS went into backup mode for a few seconds. This may be because the power company loses a leg on their transformer and the incoming voltage drops to 83V. The APC UPS should mitigate that, but something may have passed through to the plug. It shouldn't since that's what a UPS is for and APC is a good brand. The HS103 is currently working and has been for several weeks. Hope this info may help track down the problem.

Hi All.

I'm thinking it has something to do with the WPA2 challenge and response cycle. here's a clip from my Ubiquiti AP log file

Re:HS105 units don't auto-reconnect after losing WiFi connection

Brief update on my own experience:
My unit 3 (same room as router) went red just before christmas and I left it alone to see if it would do a periodic test and recover, and now as of the 29th it's still red.  A power cycle will no doubt make it go green as usual.

Some time around about the same time it went red, I had to re-enter my wifi password into my TV for some reason.  All other devices were fine including the other 2 tp-link plugs.  That may be unrelated, or maybe there was a wifi hic-up of some sort, - but my other 2 tp-link plugs stayed green.  I see 2 issues - Firstly why did unit 3 go red when the other two stayed green.  and more importantly, why did unit 3 not periodically try to reconnect without me having to cycle power?

I will power cycle to reset it and post any future failures or observations...

@MarkNI I waited 4 weeks and it never came back!  Unplugged and it was back.  Message from TP-Link support blamed my router.  ASUS RT-AC88U in a mesh system.  No other devices are having this issue.  Due to this issue I have stopped purchasing Tp-Link devices and I have slowly switch over to different Sonoff units.  They work on my Home Assistant system, they accept custom firmware, they don't need a vendors cloud, they reconnect everytime and they are cheaper.

I'm having the same problem. HS103 with -36dBm drops off frequently from my TPLInk Archer router. I also have an HS105 that has -26dBm and drops less frequently. Both running 1.5.6 now. My Wyze smart plugs in the same room do not have this problem. TP-Link should either acknowledge it's a hardware design problem or fix it.

@Mauly Does your device turn orange and not try to reconnect?  Mine stays disconnected and will not reconnect unless I unplug it.

@bschatzow have you updated firmware to the latest version for your particular devices?  My HS103's had this same issue and it was driving me totally nuts.  Finally saw a mention in this thread of updating firmwrae ... I had looked and not found the setting for this before someone mentioned it was among the settings for the app ... I had been looking for it under the device options for each specific device ... once I applied the update, my devices have remained online.  Won't know for sure that this was the solution until a bit more time goes by, but given how frequently they fell offline, it's looking promising.

My "Unit 1" which was the only one of the three that had never dropped out before - I noticed it had gone red yesterday.  The other two remained green, and as usual no other devices on my wifi network had any problems (or if they did experience any problems, they rectified themselves without requiring any user intervention).

Agreeing with @bschatzow , it now looks like time for me to switch to another make of smart plugs :-(

@Bubbles Yes. This does not fix the issue.  Not seeing this with my sonoff devices since I switched.  Still have a couple of tplink devices and one went off this morning.  Had to unplug to get it back.

@MarkNI what router do you have. I have been communicating directly with tplink support and they are blaming my Asus router.
