will second router make a difference

Hi I preseume the router my service provider here in Dublin Ireland gave me is not the best available,
If I plug in a new tp link router to the back of the isp router will this slow down things or improve my reception ,if its does not have a negative effedt whats the best router i can buy from tp link

Pretty much all routers can be run in AP Mode (Access Point Mode) which disables the router's DHCP server and firewall, and will act as a wireless access to point to your main router. This is a fantastic way of extending wifi coverage and speed. Connect your AP router via the Internet socket to your main router's lan socket and it'll basically act like a wireless switch. Of course if you dont need wireless at the access point, a switch would be the better option.
Just be sure to setup the router as AP before you plug it into your isp router.
