Hi,

I've just purchased a couple of wireless powerline extenders model TL-WPA281. I've successfully set them up with a different SSID and network key from the router (and each other). On the ground floor (for example) the SSID is MarcLodgeGF and the 1st floor MarcLodgeFF etc. and depending on where I am in the house, I can choose the strongest signal.

My question is, if I were to call all SSIDs the same, with the same network key, would this work? I have a windows 7 laptop. The reason I am thinking of doing this is that I have a Sonos speaker system, that is linked to the router. If I am connected to the router SSID, everything works fine, but on the other two SSIDs, the speakers (understandably) cannot be seen.

Also, if the SSID is the same, will Windows automatically choose the strongest signal as I move about the house? (would be rather nice if it did! :) )

Grateful for any advice given.

Sure it did. And you'd better set up different channels on different PA281.

Hey Marc.
I'd agree with Miss Lucky. Unless you have a managed wireless network which facilitates Roaming, you are better off with 2 different SSIDs and Different Wireless Channels (separate them by at least 7). I don't see why you couldn't use the same WiFi Password (encryption) on both.
Your laptop should connect to the stronger SSID, if the signal from the one it was attached to gets too low.

See if we can get some feedback here pls.

At the moment we have the general router with one ssid and 2 wpa4220 with a different ssid from the router but the same name and channel for both.
Would it make any sense to have a separate ssid with two diferente chanels for each wpa4220?

SSID == name. What do you mean when you said "different ssid from the router but the same name"
