need your help to config SG2424 switch correctly, and thank you much!
Hi, a network newbie here but willing to learn. I have a few questions regarding to the configuation of an SG2424 24-port managed switch. In advance, thank you very much for reading this long post, and really appreicate for your responses to my questions!
Here is my current home network setup after purchaing that used (new to me) switch SG2424:
ISP Cable Modem --> router -->SG2424 switch --> computers/devices/WIFI/a dummy swith
Below are the configurations for the router, the switch SG2424, and the WIFI point. At this moment, everything seems running fine, but I felt I had configured a few things incorrectly, and I'd like to make them correct. For easier reading, I had my questions in yellow background.
Router (with 4 ports and WIFI, but WIFI is turned off for various reasons)
IPv4 address: 192.168.1.1
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
DHCP: ON
IP Pool starting address: 192.168.1.2
IP Pool ending address: 192.168.1.200 (I forgot, but I may have set it to 200. Shoud I change it to 255?)
Switch SG2424:
IP Address Mode: Static IP (this was the default. should/can I choose it to DHCP, and why?)
Management VLAN: 1 (not familar with it yet, but is this the place where I can configure several VLAN's for differnt ports?)
IP Address: 192.168.1.222 (am I wrong in chosening 222, which is outside of the router's pool range 2~200, or am i just going nuts?)
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
WIFI (used an old WIFI router inteded only for guests, so oftentimes it is turned off):
IP Address: 192.168.1.2
Please let me know if I confused you. Again, thanks very much for your reading and answering my stupid questions!
