Model: CPE710
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 2.2.1 Build 20201208 Rel. 34943 (4341)

trying to connect to Ruckus Outdoor AP. CPE710 does not support UNII-1 bands even though these lower frequencies are now allowed for outdoor use.  When is this going to be fixed?

Changes to U-NII-1

  • 5.150 - 5.250 GHz band can now be used outdoors.
  • Maximum conducted output power is increased to 1 watt (4 watts EIRP) for Access Points and 250 mW (23.9 dBm) for mobile/portable clients with maximum 6 dBi antenna gain.
  • Power must be reduced by 1 dB for every dB that the antenna gain exceeds 6 dBi.
  • For outdoor AP use, EIRP power in the upwards direction above 30 degrees is limited to 125 mW (20.9 dBm) to reduce interference for Mobile Satellite Service and no reduction for indoor use.

  @Dave3

I have asked a similar question before and the answer is that the CPE710 does not support Band1, because the power is low in Band1 and the performance is not good (just for reference).
Does your Ruckus AP only support Band1?
If so, there's nothing you can do about it and you can consider returning it.

@Virgo The Ruckus AP is bouncing back and forth between UNII-1 and UNII-3 because they can.  Just frustrating because UNII-1 band have been FCC approved for outdoor use since 2014 and TP-Link decided not to support it.  I get the limitations but the device should support the FCC approved bands period.  TP-link should either update the firmware or clearly state that they don't support UNII-1.  Product states it support frequencies from 5.185-5.85 GHz.

  @Dave3

Actually, if you look closely, you can actually see some notes, and let's take the US website as an example, you can see that there is a note.

  @Virgo Fair point but in this case, I am talking about USA.  The UNII-1 band can be used.   Btw - every other vendor does support it.

  @Dave3 should have stated that the product specs show that it supports frequencies from 5.150- 5.850 GHz which includes frequencies in the lower UNII-1 range.
