Please confirm that transmission power of EAP650 and EAP653 are different for EU market:

My EU EAP653 seems to be limited to 20dBm on both bands in standalone mode.

  @tomekpro1069 using EAP653 I am able to select 25 dBm on channel 100, 160MHz wide (it scans for 10 minutes before it's ready). Still based on the specs and EU regulations I should be able to 1000mW in U-NII-2c bands (30 dBm). I am not sure why this is blocked. Additionally I am missing U-NII-3 bands (149-165 channels) - in which it's legally possible to go up to 4000mW.

 

Do you know how to enable U-NII-3 bands?

The rule seems to be max 50mW/Mhz including antenna gain in the EU...so 20Mhz channel=30dB or 1W, 80Mhz bonded=4W?  

Depending on the radio design, you may have to reduce max power by 3dB (so 27dB or 0.5W). 

Depending on the antenna design, like say there's a 7dB antenna gain and no TPC (power control) then your max radio output power is 30-3-7 = 20dB

You also have radar avoidance issues to deal with.  There are a couple of frequency blocks where you are capped at 25mW too.

Here is what've learnt recently:

 

  • there is no possiblity to select channels in U-NII-3 (a.k.a band4 in TP-link docs, 149-165 channels) for indoor EAPs - but I don't own any outdoor version so I can't tell
  • "power" is spread across whole channel width - which means using 80MHz channel will give you "stronger" signal than using 160MHz channel
  • 160MHz channel is only useful when you have >700Mbps WAN
  • the speed depends on number of WiFi antenas in you device
  • there is only place for 2x160MHz channels in indoor spectrum for EU (36-64 and 100-128)

 

I just bought EAP670 (totally overkill for home, it's uglily large) but it's possible to select 30 dBm.

 

I have AP per each floor (500m2 house) in my setup and currently I am testing 160MHz channels, (100 basement, 36 ground, 100 roof). But it's too strong anyway - I see that my phone tends to not roam from roof AP when I am on groud floor. I'll be testing AI option with 80MHz channels and power adjustments soon.

I think I'll eventually stick to 3x80MHz non-overlapping channels.
