Product request: 5-Port POE Omada switch
Product request: 5-Port POE Omada switch
Hello Community,
what do you guys think are the chances of TP-Link launching an Omada capable 5 port POE switch soon?
Maybe a TL-SG2005P, also in the size of a TL-SG1005P...
Do you guys think other users would be interested too, or am I the only one wishing for it?

Hi all,
I think this case can be closed for now.
SG2005P-PD is the 5 port PoE switch and is controllable by Omada Controller.
You can take a look at it: https://www.tp-link.com/en/business-networking/omada-switch-poe/sg2005p-pd/

Personally, think its unlikely
5 ports is very small and only really useful in a home user scenario, Omada is designed for bigger than that. Honestly think 8 is as small as you will see fir that reason

I don't necessarily share that opinion.
I work in a not really big company, where we nevertheless manage over 1500 APs (not TP-Link) at over 100 locations.
I'm sure there are also somewhat larger companies that easily have more than 10x the number of APs and sites to manage.
At 80% of the sites a 5 port POE switch is perfectly adequate.
At home, the slightly higher power consumption of an 8 port switch compared to the 5 port switch would not really bother me, but if you add it up to 10, 100 or 1000 switches, it adds up at the current price of ~0.6 euros / KWh.

@AngelK I would also like a alternative to the UniFi Flex Mini switch. In other words a POE-powered switch.

Ubiquiti thought the market was big enough and launched the Edgerouter X. It's ideal for small offices or outbuildings where you have a few APs and maybe a camera or two type thing. I'm voting for it!

@AngelK I would like to see this as well, or something similar to the UniFi Flex / Mini. PoE powered 5 port switch would be awesome. It would also be fantastic to have a model that can take PoE in and passthrough to the other ports like the UniFi flex. These are awesome for SoHo panels that do not have outlets, They can be powered by PoE and also spit PoE back out for powering APs or desk phones.

@MPDI There is a POE powered switch, the difference is that it doesn't provide downstream POE, like the Flex. The TL-SG2008 can be powered by POE.
