I just setup a Omada ER606 via the web GUI (@home). The setup seemed straight forward. I also setup the VPN with L2TP following the simple instuctions. When I got to my remote location I could not connect. I also have a Ubuntu VPN server (@home) and I opened ports 500 & 4500 for it. I have no problems connecting to the Ubuntu VPN server. I double and triple checked all the setting and can not figure out what I did wrong. The steps I took was

setup up a vpn ip pool

Configured the L2TP server

Configured the L2TP users.

 

What am I missing. I tried to connect with a MAC and a Win 10 machine and no luck.

Do I need to open ports for the Omada VPN?

Hi, what is the WAN ip of ER 605?

If it is a public IP, you don't need to do the port forwarding, but if it is a private one and yes, you need to open not only ports 500 & 4500 but also UDP 1701 for it.

Just striving to develop myself while helping others.

Yes, you need to open ports for the Omada VPN in order to allow devices to connect remotely. The ports needed will depend on the protocol type used (e.g. PPTP, L2TP, IPSec, etc.). Additionally, you may need to configure port forwarding on your router to forward VPN traffic from your home network to the remote devices. After setting up the necessary ports and port-forwarding, you should be able to successfully connect to your Omada VPN from any remote location.
