Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version:

Hi,

I recently purchased additional hardware and replaced some of my older switches with Omada switches. Unfortunately, I was quite disappointed to discover that the ER7212PC supports only two switches.

I understand there are technical limitations, but supporting only two switches seems quite restrictive, especially for small and medium-sized businesses. In my opinion, this limitation is not clearly emphasized on the product page. Other controllers, like the OC200, clearly state they support up to 20 switches — such information makes a real difference in the purchasing decision.

Had this limitation been clearly stated in the product description, I likely would have chosen a different controller.

I sincerely hope there are plans for a short-term firmware update that will allow support for more than two switches.

Thank you very much for your attention.

Hi  @Chris_home

Thank you for your appreciation of the ER7212PC and for sharing your feedback.

However, I must tell you that we currently have no plans to increase the number of manageable switches on the ER7212PC via firmware updates in the near future.

If this capability is critical for your needs, we recommend following the suggestions shared by others: either using a dedicated controller or managing some switches under their standalone interface.

Appreciate for your understanding.

@Chris_home,

As a non-dedicated controller, the SDN capabilities are not as prominently featured as on the dedicated controllers.  That said, the info is in the specs but lacks some consistency as highlighted below.  Also, I don't think you can manage the ER7212PC from another controller, so if you plan expand your network it would require you to replace the gateway and add a controller.

  @D-C

Thank you very much — that’s exactly what I was afraid of. Since I’ve seen firmware updates adding support for additional EAPs, I was hoping that a future update might also include support for extra switches. :-)

Part of the reason I chose the all-in-one solution was to keep the setup clean — fewer power supplies, fewer cables, and a more compact installation overall.

You can still run as many omada or non omada switches as you want, would just have to use them in standalone mode.  If you are adding unmanaged switches, this doesnt matter at all.

Main: ER8411 x1, SG3428X x1, SG3452 x1, SG2428LP x1, SG3210 x1, SG2218P x1, SG2008P x3, ES208G x1, EAP650 x6 Remote: ER7206 v2 x1, ER605 v2 x3, SG2008P x2, EAP650 x2, ES205G x1 Controller: OC300

Thanks  @GRL

Yes, I know… but unfortunately, I’m using managed switches. For now, I’ve made some changes and decided to adopt the two most complex ones that absolutely need to be managed due to the various VLANs in place.

I’ve configured my two managed SG2005P-PD v1.0 switches to run in stand-alone mode. Luckily, both are dedicated to my camera VLAN, so I just assigned the ports they’re connected to on my main managed switch to the appropriate camera VLAN.

That said, for future updates or changes, I’d really love to see a firmware update that could handle more than just two managed switches. I really like the all-in-one ER7212PC — such a great device! 😉
