OC300 1.30.7 Build 20250704 Rel.78617 - OpenVPN Server sometimes stops working
OC300 1.30.7 Build 20250704 Rel.78617 - OpenVPN Server sometimes stops working

Hi all,
I have OC300 controller and I have also an OpenVPN Server configured on that Controller, so that my other site can access same network.
I have chosen OpenVPN Client-to-Site type because I have both public IPs, but both sites are behind NAT.
Now, the thing is that, after the upgrade to latest version of Controller, the OpenVPN Server stops and the Built-In Radius Server cannot reach the remote site and thus the IP assignments stop as well and the devices don't get the network without an IP...
I'm quite sure it was working before, because I have this configuration since one year as least.
All Omada devices have the latest firmware.
Also, if I ping one device in the VPN, even if the VPN is enstablished from the Insights panel, the ping fails.
So, I think we have 3 problems in chain! :)
Let me know! And let me know if you need more info!
Thank you,
Fra

Hi Vincent,
since the VPN server was down, I took the time to force provision the router where the VPN server is and now it started back working.
I will monitor the situation!
Thanks for your hints!

Hi @nicolati
Thanks for posting here.
To better understand the situation, please let us know the following info:
1. Do you use the OC300 to manage two routers in two sites?
2. What's the model number and firmware of the router you are using?
3. What's the firmware version of the OC300 before this update?
Please try Click Force provision the routers (Config > Manage Device ) to see if it helps.
If not, please share with us the topology of the network, and VPN config page, the VPN tunnels page and the ping result. Thanks.

Hi Vincent,
Yes, I manage both sites and both routers ER605 V2 from the same OC300 V1 controller, which is in the main site (the sites are 2 houses, but I don't think this is relevant :)).
Both ER605 V2 have the same latest firmware, which is 2.3.0 official release. With 2.2.6 the problem was the same, because it seems it started when I have upgraded the OC300 V1 from 1.29.7 to 1.30.7, both officials.
So, it seems to me the 1.30.7 has some problems in this sense. The OpenVPN server is not stable. Did you modify anything in this regard in 1.30.7 ?
I would like to avoid to force provisioning, since the other site is 600Km far away and, if something goes wrong, I cannot reset it right now.
The VPN per se is working. The real problem is that it seems it stops working from time to time...
About the ping, I discovered I can ping the landing IPs. When the remote site enstablish the tunnel (split one), it lands on 192.168.80.0/24 and I can ping certain IP of this family, in fact. However, I don't know who they are since the real IP on the remote site network is under the 192.168.2.0/24, so I know those IPs only and I imagined to find them on the main site once the VPN tunnel enstablish. Maybe I'm wrong here! :)
Thank you,
Fra

Hi Vincent,
the thing happened again.
I think I was able to isolate the problem to a certain scenario, which is the one where I update the OC300 controller.
This time I have updated it to 6.0 version pre-release.
It seems like the full configuration is not re-applied correctly and I need to do a force provisioning on my own.
I didn't check if this happens after a while or directly after the update, but the update procedure is involved for sure.
I don't have a test environment, so can you pls test on your own?
I'm not blocked, so take your time! :)
My topology is this one:
Let me know! :)
Thanks a lot,

Ethan (TP link gateway / switch forum mod) posted an ER605 v2 Beta in one of my threads the other day with a fix for OpenVPN going offline, i see you have that gateway in your topology, ill try to find it for you

Hi GRL,
thanks a lot for replying.
I think what they did in that case was to port a fix which is in 2.3.0 already back to 2.2.6 and releasing a beta for this purpose.
However, I'm already on 2.3.0, so that should not fix the problem, at least on 2.3.0.
It could be that the provisioning sent automatically and the forced one use to different functions and thus there is a bug in one...
Let's see! :)
Thank you,

No, its a late 2.3.0 build (14th september) , has all the 2.3.0 features, his wording was somewhat confusing but if you read again he says it is based on 2.3.0 and fixes an issue since 2.2.6 - its fully adapted to controller 5.15
