Dear TP Link Wizards, I’m looking for your guidance.

I have a “TP-Link Archer NX200 5G AX1800” in my bedroom where it gets the strongest 5G signal (400mbps), but this is sadly the furthest point from my main devices.

In my living room, I have a WiFi extender, the “TP-Link RE700X”. Sadly, it has only 1x LAN port.

If I were to connect that LAN port to a “TP-Link TL-SG105E 5 Port Gigabit Easy Smart Switch” and then subsequently connect it to my other devices, would this provide the strongest signal possible, or at this level of daisy chaining am I better off staying on the WiFi of the extender?

Thank you in advanced.
Greg. Professional tech amateur.

I have tested Gigabit lan vs 5g wifi. The difference wasn't that big. On lan cable I got 900mbs. On a 5ghz Wifi I get to 600mp/s. Unless you run servers and something really Important it's not worth the trouble to install switches and new cables. Only 1ms difference in ping

Hi,

By "strongest signal" do you indeed mean signal or are you referring to data throughput?

If you were to connect a switch to the LAN port of the RE700X and then connect your client devices to that switch via Ethernet cables, then this would provide more overall data throughput for those client devices, because in this case the data only needs to be transferred via Wi-Fi once (between the NX200 and the RE700X), while in comparison if you connect the same client devices via Wi-Fi the data has to be transferred via Wi-Fi twice (between the NX200 and the RE700X and also between the RE700X and the client devices), which means twice the Wi-Fi capacity is required.

If you happen to have very fast broadband Internet and a computer with both Ethernet and Wi-Fi, then you can simply test it by yourself to see the difference.
First connect the computer via Wi-Fi to the RE700X and run a Speedtest.
Then connect that same computer by Ethernet cable to the LAN port of the RE700X and run the Speedtest again.

Hello@Gerg999 ,

Welcome to our community.

Thanks to @woozle and @ArcherC80user1 for your detailed explanations and suggestions.

@Gerg999 , I believe their explanations and suggestions will be helpful to you. The following are the instructions for different configurations of RE700X:

How to configure Range Extender

How to configure Range Extender as an Access Point

Alternatively, if you want to set an EasyMesh network between NX200 and RE700X_V1, it is recommended to use the WPS button.

How to add an extender to an EasyMesh network as a satellite device.
