Mixing different Omada AP models? Windows laptops won't roam to some of the APs.
Hello guys,
I am managing a medium sized office located in the middle of Montreal island where the wireless network is totally crowded and very hard to makes working. I know that because all other tenant of the building are complaining about Wi-Fi issues in this area... but anyway.
I've currently deployed 5x EAP-660-HD AP with a good overall result, but I had to have them located like 15 feet from each other to have a stable signal but at least, it works fine! but it's showing how crowded is the actual signal in the building...
Only remaining issue is I have a medium sized meeting room with sound-proofed walls and doors where the signal is still very weak and very unstable. So my first idea last month was to re-use an old Omada EAP-245 AP I already had in hand and wall mount it discreetly inside the meeting room. However while the roaming to this AP is working fine with iPhones, iPads and smarts devices (such as smart TV), all our corporate Windows 11 PC (mostly latest gens of corporate line from Dell & Lenovo) are kinda excluding the EAP-245 and remain connected to any of the 5x EAP-660-HD even with a very weak signal! My first impression is for some reason Windows 11 laptops seem to exclude this AP maybe because it's an old Wi-Fi 5 AP while there's Wi-Fi 6 AP on the same network... is that the explanation?
So what would be my best option to fix this? I would prefer not to have to purchase a sixth EAP-660-HD because I don't have the possibility in the meeting room to ceiling mount a large AP like that and in the best scenario a small wall-mount option would be better (the old EAP-245 is actually very small). So if I order something new and similar to the EAP-660-HD, such as the EAP-655-WALL, which is way smaller than the 660-HD, will I have the same problem where Windows 11 computers will kinda "reject" this AP because it is different from the others?
Thx!!
