Hybrid Storage & Auto-Sync during Connectivity Issues
Hi Tapo Team,
I am using the Tapo D235 Video Doorbell paired with the H500 Smart Hub. While I appreciate the local storage options, I’ve noticed a critical gap in the recording reliability during power or internet outages.
The Issue:
Currently, we have to choose between saving recordings to the Hub or the microSD card. If the Hub is selected as the primary storage and the power goes out (turning off the Hub/Router), the D235 continues to run on its internal battery but fails to record anything because it loses connection to the Hub.
The Proposed Solution: "Offline Backup & Auto-Sync"
I suggest a firmware update that allows the D235 to utilize the microSD card as a fail-safe backup.
1. Automatic Switch: If the connection between the D235 and the H500 Hub is lost (due to Wi-Fi failure or power outage at the Hub), the doorbell should automatically record events onto its internal microSD card.
2. Auto-Sync/Upload: Once the connection to the Hub is restored, the doorbell should automatically upload/sync those "offline clips" to the Hub's hard drive or storage.
3. Unified Timeline: This ensures a continuous recording history without gaps, even during emergency situations.
This feature would make the Tapo D235 the most reliable battery-powered doorbell on the market, providing true peace of mind for users who rely on local storage.
I hope the dev team considers this enhancement!
