Hello @Solla-topee and @Wayne-TP,

I would like to report a usability issue with the IR AC control interface. This affects all users who control their air conditioners via IR.

1. TAPO does not show the last known AC state when the AC is OFF

When the AC is OFF, the TAPO interface hides:

  • the last temperature
  • the last mode (cool/heat/dry/fan)
  • the last fan speed
  • the last swing setting

The screen shows only “Device Off,” with no indication of what will happen when the user presses ON.

However, the moment the user turns the AC ON, the app suddenly displays all the settings — meaning the app did know them beforehand.

This makes IR control unpredictable.

2. SmartLife handles this correctly

SmartLife displays the last known AC state even when the AC is OFF (greyed out). This tells the user:

“If you turn it ON now, these are the settings that will be sent.”

This avoids surprises and makes scheduling/automation reliable.

3. Why this matters

Without seeing the last known state, users cannot know:

  • whether the AC will turn on in cool or heat mode
  • what temperature will be applied
  • what fan speed will be used

This leads to unexpected behavior, especially when using schedules or automations.

4. Request

Please forward this to the app development team.

The IR AC interface should display the last known state even when the AC is OFF, just like SmartLife does.

This would make IR control predictable, transparent, and much easier to use.

Thank you for your attention.

Best regards,

John

Are you using the SmartLife app to control the AC that was added through the Tapo H110, or do you have another IR hub set up?

  @Wayne-TP

Thanks for your reply.

To clarify:

I am using two separate IR hubs — the Tapo H110 in my main home, and a Tuya/SmartLife IR blaster in another location. I am not mixing apps or controlling the same device across platforms.

My comparison is based on how each app displays the last known AC state when the AC is OFF.

SmartLife shows the last mode, temperature, and fan speed (greyed out).

Tapo hides this information completely until the AC is turned ON.

Both hubs use the same IR principle (fullstate packet transmission), so the difference is purely in the UI design, not the hardware.

This is why I believe showing the last known state in Tapo would greatly improve predictability and user experience.

Thanks again for looking into this.

Best regards,

John
