Would it be possible to expose additional camera events to Amazon Alexa?

Currently, the only available triggers appear to be Motion Detection and Person Detection.

 

I would like to make use of Tampering Detection as an Alexa trigger, so that my Alexa devices can play an alert or announcement whenever someone obstructs the camera's view.

 

I recently had an incident where one of my Tapo cameras was stolen. Being able to trigger an immediate audible alert when the camera view is blocked or tampered with would provide an additional layer of security and could potentially help prevent similar incidents in the future.

Could this functionality be considered for a future update?

 

I can do it with ITTT triggers - so that once I receive the notviciation on my phone - pass it on to Alexa 

However direct event should be faster

Workaround - until future upgrades 

 

Due to Tapo only exposing Motion Detection and Person Detection events to Amazon Alexa

I implemented a workaround using IFTTT and the Mkzense Alexa Skill to enable camera obstruction alerts.

 

The automation works as follows:

• Trigger: Notification received from the Tapo app.
• Filter: Notification contains the word "Obstruction".
• Action: IFTTT activates the "Send Alexa Action" function via the Mkzense Skill.

 

On the Alexa side, I enabled the Mkzense Skill, imported the IFTTT Triggers, and created an Alexa Routine with the trigger:

"Camera Obstructed – IFTTTTrigger-1 is pressed"

 

When the routine is activated, Alexa announces a custom warning message across all Echo devices in the property.

This effectively provides a camera tamper/obstruction alert through Alexa, even though Tapo does not natively expose obstruction detection events to the Alexa ecosystem.

also to note - this is under 10sec from obstruction to Alexa Anouncing
