Firmware Version:

I've been using a WA850re extender for a couple of years now. Suddenly 2 or 3 months ago I started noticing the signal going off for a minute or so, enough to disconnect me from calls or online games I was playing. When this happens the only light that remains on is the power one. After some troubleshooting I thought the extender was failing so I got a an RE200. For the first few weeks the cuts were gone, but suddenly they started to happen again, and even more frequently.

As far as I know nothing has changed regarding my isp. We changed the router last year, but it had been working fine for several months untill the cuts started. I've also tried using different power sockets but it made no difference.

I'm wondering now if it is a software issue but I've realy got no idea.

Thanks, I think this solved the issue. I set the channel to 11 and haven't seen any issues in the past days

Hello @pastafrola ,

Welcome to our community.

Based on your description, this matches a known scenario where the Signal, 2.4G, and 5G LEDs turn off during disconnection. Here are the recommended steps to address this:
1. Ensure the extender's Wi-Fi name differs from the router's. Having the same name can cause conflicts and lead to intermittent drops.
2. Update the extender's firmware to the latest version. Firmware updates often include stability improvements that can resolve this type of issue.
3. Reposition the extender for optimal signal strength. Placement plays a big role in connection stability. You can find detailed guidance here: How to Place Your TP-Link Wi-Fi Extender for the Best Signal and Performance
4. Adjust your router's wireless channel settings. Set the router's 2.4GHz channel to 1, 6, or 11, and the 5GHz channel to Band 1 (channels 36–48). This can significantly reduce interference, which may be the root cause — especially since the issue appeared on two different extenders.

Since the problem persisted across two extenders and different power sockets, the router's channel configuration or wireless interference is a likely culprit. Trying step 4 in particular may make a notable difference.
