EAP245 Mesh not working
EAP245 Mesh not working
2019-05-27 22:39:35
Model: EAP245
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version: 2.1.0 Build 20181107 Rel. 39421

I bought two EAP245 APs, and am attempting to mesh them together. They were advertised as Mesh ready, so i am trying to get them to mesh together. I adopted the first AP and enabled mesh, but when plugging in the second AP, the controller will not detect the AP as an isolated AP and allow meshing. Is there something I am missing to enable meshing the APs together?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

We add mesh in the latest firmware of EAP225.

For the EAP245v3, the old firmware doesn't support mesh, we are still testing the firmware which support mesh, we will release it as soon as possible.

Thanks for the reply! I will hold on to the second e245 i have and mesh it when the firmware is available.

Its been 3 months. How about releasing mesh support for EAP245? It is lame not to support EAP245 as a Root node if you consider the physical topology. If you want to use EAP225s outdoors with current support you still need to have an EAP225 inside, since the whole reason you want wireless mesh is so you don't have to run hard wired Ethernet outside. If you allow EAP245s to be used as Root Nodes, then you can have EAP225s outside the building connected via wireless mesh. The physical topology matches the logical network topology. Please accelerate this release.

I bought 4 eap225 outdoor Ap's and 5 eap245 AP's.

I bought the eap245 because they would be mesh-ready. Please launch the firmware Update so I can deploy the AP's.

Outside Canada, Russia, Japan, EU, Switzerland: yes.

In Canada, Russia, Japan, EU, Switzerland: no.

Reason is that U-NII-1 frequency band is allowed only indoor in listed countries, but not outdoor. You need to limit the channels in EAP225-Outdoor APs to those allowed for outdoor use (firmware/Omada Controller has a setting to avoid use of indoor channels on EAP225-Outdoor). So, EAP245 choosing indoor channels for the mesh can't be a root node for EAP225-Outdoor in countries listed above.

Thank you for your answer. Can you tell me where I can find this channelsetting in the OC200?

In OC200 firmware 1.1.1 it's in menu Wireless SettingsAdvanced Wireless Settings → tab 5 GHz → Channel Limit

In previous (software) controller versions it is in EAP Configuration windowRadio → tab 5 GHzChannel Limit   (only visible in the config window of an EAP225-Outdoor)

BTW: you could use an EAP225-Outdoor also indoors and enable channel limit, although I would recommend to mesh outdoor nodes with outdoor root nodes only. In my experience, meshing an outdoor EAP with an indoor EAP will probably attenuate the WLAN signal too much (depends on material of the walls and other obstacles in between the two EAPs).

I enabled the channels limit function as mentioned in your post. Still I can 't find the eap245 in the pending list. This eap245 isn't connected by utp (only for power).

Yes, as forrest wrote above EAP245v3 does not (yet) support meshing. I just wanted to point out in response to RMM949 that it's problematic to mesh outdoor EAPs with indoor EAPs (e.g. EAP225-Indoor) in countries where channel limits apply. I think TP-Link will soon publish a firmware for EAP245v3 which supports meshing - they usually do very detailed tests before releasing a new firmware and this takes some time.

Thank you for your detailed explanation. As soon as the firmware is updated I now know how to set up the mesh Network.
