TL-SG3428 (TP-Link) v1 or v2?

Model: TL-SG3428
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

Retailer assured me a v2 would ship, but a v1 arrived. Keep or return/exchange?

From a quick spec compare, I see the following differences:

-Packet Buffer: 4.1 Mbit vs 12 Mbit

-ISP Features DDM and sFlow

-Max Power Consumption, 19.22 W vs 19.9 W

-MAC Address Table: 8K vs 16K

-MAC VLAN: 12 vs 30 entries

-ARP Entries: 316 vs 512

Can't see how I'd encounter any limitations re: the above in a home setting (albeit supporting some business function and basic lab stuff/VM host, etc).

My main concerns are future support for the v1 and whether the v2 was indicative of any particular flaw/concern...

I noted that firmware release do seem to be keeping current:

v1 @ TL-SG3428v1_en_1.1.2_[20210806-rel55686]_up.bin

v2 @ TL-SG3428v2_en_2.0.3_[20210409-rel52950]_up.bin

So box it up or rack it and move on?

Cheers!

  @jeef

If you can return it and switch to V2 then do so, according to this information you have listed, V2 supports more number of entries.

Just striving to develop myself while helping others.

@Virgo Cheers! Looking into options on return/exchange. The switch came from the 'TP-Link Store' via Amazon.ca -- was one of the few options with available stock at the time. Unfortunately, Customer Service hasn't been terribly helpful. I've reached out to TP-Link sales directly to see if they can assist. Awaiting a response...

There are indeed some clear differences in features/maximums between the v1 and v2 as noted. Will it have any impact? I don't think so, but I don't entirely know. Packet buffering is a complex topic to say the least (noticeable impact of 4 vs 12 Mbit?). I don't intend to leverage MAC-based vLANs so 12 vs 30 entires shouldn't really have no impact. Had I stayed strictly L2 something like the TL-SG2428P (which is on v4) has similar maximums as the TL-SG3428 v1, which suggests the v1 may indeed be adequate.

Of course I have no visibility into any other changes between v1/v2... could have simply been a marketing/manufacturing decision to better align specs across the TL-SG3 series and may not impact performed/reliability in any way. I was pleased to see that older versions are still receiving firmware updates, so that's a good sign. :)
