Bad File Updating Firmware
Bad File Updating Firmware
I bought two EAP245 v3s off of Amazon at the same time in October of 2022. I've been trying to update the firmware on them. One updates fine, the other one complains of "Bad File" no matter what version I try to update to.
I've tried factory resetting and I've tried multiple browsers. Can anybody point me in the right direction to get this working? I'd like them to be on the same version.

You may have an EAP from a different region (ie an EU AP won't accept US firmware). Can you closely inspect both the device label and the hardware/firmware revision reported via it's web interface. If in doubt, post as images or text.

The label indicates EAP245(US) Ver 3.0, so it is identical to the one that accepted the firmware update......
ETA: The current firmware on the device is 5.0.3 Build 20210708 Rel. 35014(5553)
Any other trouble shooting?

Interesting that the firmware you have is not the 'official' 5.0.3 load from the US. It seems some genius installed the Canadian version. Your easiest path forwards would be to upgrade the latest Canuck version of the firmware:

If that is not acceptable to you, can you confirm if you are able to SSH into the misbehaving AP?

Hi,
I can SSH into it. I would like to be able to get the latest US version on it so the two devices will match up. The Canadian firmware appears to be well behind the US version.
Thanks for any further advice in being able to do this. I appreciate it.

Thanks for the suggestion. I had already given that a shot. Tried again and still no go. Same "Bad File" message on the Web GUI.

Have you tried the generic version?

Same issue. I did manage to get updated to the most recent CA version in hopes it would then work with the SSH command but still a no go.

@kes601 usually you would go back to a very old firmware version first to try a hack....
You can also try to open a support ticket with TPlink for a region change.
There are also some scripts over in OpenWRT land that provide a path back to US firmware, but you need to bring your A game. Might be easier to just buy another AP?

Thanks for all the advice today. Thinking right now I may just buy a 3rd AP and let the Canadian version stay online as 2ghz only to handle my legacy devices......
