Model: ER605 (TL-R605)
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version:
When I connect by wire to the er605 the load balancing works and when I connect by wifi, it no longer works. For what ?
Thank you

Hello,

I have the same problem, this is my case:

- Two (2) Wans (500 Mbps and 300 Mbps)
-ER605 v2
- EAP653 (5Ghz, channel width 160Mhz, 2402Mbps) test iperf3 WiFi <--> Lan results in 903 Mbps.
- Internet test page: fast.com

Test 1:

Wan 1/ Wan 2 --> ER605 v2 --> Laptop Lan ==> download 740 Mbps, upload 730 Mbps ==> test ok

Test 2:

Wan 1 / Wan 2 --> ER605 v2 --> EAP653 --> WiFi Laptop ==> download 400 Mbps, upload 720 Mbps ==> test failed

Why the download speed of test two differs from test one?, but the upload speed remains similar or the same.

because of the session of this speed test uses.

session is the key to the whole concept/idea of load balancing. what's balanced? SESSION.

if your session is balanced, then it'll be flowing thru both wan 1 and 2. if it is not balanced, then you get the speed of either one of them.

nothing to complain about. what virgo suggested is to prove the load balancing actually works.

tp has already written an article explaining this: Why failing to achieve bandwidth aggregation of multiple WAN ports by Speedtest on SMB router

Hi @Star2112

Thanks for posting in our business forum.

 Hi @Clive_A thank you for your reply,

So here's my question: firstly, what is your definition of load balancing?
Here I have two links 1° 400 mbs + 2° 300 mbs the idea is for the ER605 to add the combine connections,

which is occurring correctly in the wired network, after activating Enable Load Balancing in the ER605 settings.

When I run a speed test, the average speed shown is 700mbs in wired network.

I would expect to see the same speed when running a test on a laptop or smartphone connected via wifi.

What do you expect to see from load balancing?
I expected better performance over wireless.

Not to mention that the test method you use to test load balancing isn't correct, you think it's a bug in the system with the LAN/WAN. So, in your opinion, what's the difference

between an AP and a wired connection?
I understand that the connections would be identical between the wired part and the wifi part, but I could be wrong about that because I don't have deep technical knowledge about networks, I'm actually investigating and learning from this situation to get the most out of the hardware I have here by the way a liked very much the router ER605.

If you have time, take a second to read the KB.

Excuse my ignorance, but what is KB and where can I find it?

Thank you very much for your questions.

Best regards.
Samuel

I think I did not upload the KB successfully. It's pinned.

Combined speed is not guaranteed unless your test device can do a multi-session speed test. Or it does not add up the speed. FAQ on our official website has explained this. Aggregate speed as keywords and you should see them.

And 300Mbps on WIFI, have you ruled out the possibility that your wireless is limiting this? Commonly 866Mbps for 5GHz on WIFI5 get you around 300-400Mbps. If optimal, it'd get 400Mbps or a little bit more.

what are trying to load balance on the WiFi?  What are you wanting to accommplish?

Thank you for answering!

I connect the er605 on an access point which transmits by wifi to another building.

  @kogalia

Are you trying to hook up an AP to the 605 and get wireless signal in another building?

Are the clients in range?

Do not set failover, and use the ping -t on the wireless clients.

Unplug the WAN1 cable and check if the wireless client can get internet access, check the ping test result.

If it can get internet, plug the WAN1 cable back and unplug the WAN2 cable and check the same info.

Hello,

In my case, the ping is cut off every time I disconnect from a WAN1 or WAN2.

The question: why is the fast.com test not the same? If the cable or Wi-Fi connection is almost the same for both, at least they exceed 900Mbps.
The cable test gives 730 Mbps.
The wifi test varies according to the WAN, 500Mbps or 300 Mbps.

Could it be an EAP653 problem?

Thank you for your attention and collaboration.

quite normal. that's load balancing coming into intervention. and it's effective. meaning failover/load balancing works.
