Model: EAP670
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

I am planning a new VLAN network and will be deploying 3 - EAP670 APs. These three will have nearby electrical outlets but I may add two more that would need to use POE power.

The EAP670 specifications listed on the tp-link site state Power Consumption = US 19.8 W. I am assuming this means the POE switch must provide at least 20 W from the connected port.

1. Am I correct the EAP670 needs minimum 20 W POE from the switch?

2. Do I need to allow a bit of overhead to be safe, i.e., choosing a switch that can supply 30 W per port?

This is my initial foray into managed switches and I want to select the equipment wisely.

Thank you for your help.

  @GregVLAN

From my knowledge, 20W for switch's POE port is enough, you can see19.8W for EAP670 is the maximum POE consumption.

  @Virgo

One of my customers has 2x of these and they are drawing ~10watts each on average, however they are not very busy if truth be told.   As Virgo said, budget 20w and you should be good

@Virgo

Thanks for the confirmation. I thought that Maximum Power Consumption was the magic number I needed to hit - but wanted to be sure as I set about selecting switches for this LAN.

 I anticipate averaging 15-20 active Wi-Fi connections with bursts up to 50 during the workday.

Now I'm curious if connecting the APs via 2.5GB is significantly better than 1GB. Rather than muddy this thread, and presume upon your good graces, I've posed that question in another thread. https://community.tp-link.com/en/business/forum/topic/619238?page=1

Thanks again, guys.
