EAP683 LR connection problems with TL-SG3428XPP-M
EAP683 LR connection problems with TL-SG3428XPP-M
Hello,
first i am new to the TP-Link world. I am currently using a lot of ubnt hardware and want to explore alternative systems.
There was no EAP683 LR or TL-SG3428XPP-M in the drop down. Sorry about that.
My setup is a TL-SG3428XPP-M2 and two EAP683 LR for testing. The switch has firmware 1.20 and the APs both 1.02. I am using a selfhosted omada remote controller instance.
The test is a simple ping to the access points. I am not talking about any wifi issues (yet).
What i figured out so far:
- All APs are working with any cable using a unifi 2.5GBit/s switch (with 2.5GBit/s speed) and POE
- POE is always working using the TP-Link switch (with no data connection if there is a direct patched AP connected with link speed auto)
- 2.5 GBit/s is always working - but only without POE
- 2.5 GBit/s link speed with POE is working having a fixed installed, grounded cable together with two patch cables using the TP-Link switch
- 2.5 GBit/s link speed with POE is working using a unshielded ISDN cable (no ground) using the TP-Link switch
- 1 GBit/s fixed link speed is working with around 30% packet loss using the TP-Link switch with a direct connected patch cable
- 100 MBit/s fixed link speed is working without any packet loss using the TP-Link switch with a direct connected patch cable
That took me some hours and it seems if there is a problem with ground. Is there a known bug or do i have a faulty switch? All devices have been delivered in the last week.
Best
Martin

Hello Hank,
thank you for your reply. My ticket ID is TKID240158721 and I just posted a video in the ticket trying to capture the issue. It seems to revolve around grounded/shielded cables and poe. Once POE is off, the cable type has no effect on the connection quality. Once POE is on, I can only get 100Mbps with no/less issues with unshielded cables. If I were to guess, it seems that enabled POE has some bad effects on the data plane.
Thanks
Martin

I am waiting for a reply from the tp-link dev team. I created a matrix table what is working and what is not.

Still waiting for an update from the support team.
As another three weeks have passed and the rather expensive hardware is currently just lying around, i would be very pleased to have a solution.

The support team is informed and will reply to your email. It looks like the rep missed the follow-up.
Internal emails showed that there will be a local rep assigned to you as well. He will be in touch with you soon.
At the same time, the DE team also requested the same model SG3428XPP-M to test. So far they have not replied yet.
As this has been created with a ticket, please reply to the ticket if you have any further questions.
