My faithful old Archer D2 died yesterday so plugged in my old BT Home Hub 3 and went out today to buy a VR600. Having set it up I notice that it syncs at a faster ADSL speed of 23105 vs the old D2 at 20500 and the BT Home Hub at around 22200, however download speed is slower that the old D2. I'm getting about 16.m Mb/s on the VR400 vs 19.0 on the old D2 and 19.5 on the BT Home Hub.

Not sure what the problem is, I've used the speedtester to do several runs and also the Think Broadband large file download facility to confirm these figures. Could it be to do with some of the underlying ADSL parameters (MTU size ??)

Thanks

Peter

Is it a VR600 or VR400 ?

Probably due to the link speed of Laptop to VR on wireless , try it on the LAN port to Laptop and do a speed test .

Could be firmware

Dink, thanks for your post. I replied last week but the response does not seem to have made it to the forum.

I am connected via a Gigabit Ethernet connection so link speed is not the issue (it would affect both router speeds if it were). I suspect that it may be a firmware issue, the VR600 is designed to support VDSL and may well be optimised for that whereas all the other routers I have tested with are ADSL only. Or it could be a chipset issue, TP-Link use different chipsets across their range of routers.

Cheers

Peter
