I have a new archer mr200 where i would like to use an external antenna, or two, in order to improve 3g/4g reception.I have used my old galaxy s2 to confirm my 11dbi yagi antenna works and improves the signal from -90dbi to -70dbi. However when i unplug the little supplied antennas and plug in my external antenna the mr200 will not connect and reports no signal. I have tried both left and right side antenna ports.1) does the mr200 work with only 1 antenna like other leading brands?2) if so, which port is the primary port for single antenna?3) does this device allow you to choose a frequency to operate on. Eg: eg 900mhz or 4g 1800mhz?Thank you

Generally speaking, we need to replace both antennas if we want to change antenna.
If we just change one of them, there is no much difference.

It seems there is no way to choose a frequency.

Hi uutommi, thanks for your reply. I agree with you that within the software you are not able to choose frequency, however i dont 100% agree with what you have stated. In 3g mode, you only require 1 antenna, whilst 4g benifits from dual antenna (mimo) for increased data throughput but its not essential to have 2 antennas for 4g to function. As mentioned before, i have an existing yagi antenna that i know works, and i know other leading brands of 3g/4g routers allow you to connect 1 or 2 antenna as desired. My question is, does this router work with 1 antenna or MUST it have 2 for it to work?
