C5400 v2 only half speed on gigabit internet
Hardware Version :
Firmware Version :
ISP :
I have a gigabit internet connection. Speedtest gives mee 900+ Mbps when wired directly to my modem. Tested with laptop and Apple TV 4K.
A brand new Archer C5400 v2 only provides half the speed - with the same devices wired to it. Cat 6 cables in all tests.
Speedtest from the "Thether" app also shows connection speeds around 4-500 Mbps both up and down - I guess this should test the speed between router and modem.
So - is my Archer a defect unit, or are there fixes for this?

Steinar Carlsen

Kevin,
Are you saying that the US and EU firmware versions are the exact same for the C5400 V2?? I can install the EU firmware on my US router? I had always thought that the firmware was region specific.

Yes, you are right, the firmware was region-specific. And we recommend you customers to update/downgrade the firmware from the local TP-Link official website of the purchase location for your TP-Link device.
While the Archer C5400 V2 is special. The EU and US share the same version, you can install it on your router to give it a go first.
Any updates, be free to let us know.
Good day.

Thank you very much for the information about the C5400 V2 Kevin. I do have a question (or request if you will) . . . .
Since this appears to be a unique situation where the router is capable of having either the US or EU firmware version installed would it not be a good idea to also publish this information on the TP-Link US website and forum?? There have been numerous posts from US users that have this router and are experiencing this "half-gigabyte" problem and this would undoubtably help them.
May I suggest that TP-Link put this firmware on their US download site and also post a message on the US forums that it is available. I understand that the C5400 is considered "end-of-life" by TP-Link but making the dowload available on the US support website would go a long way in generating good will among Tp-Link's users.
Thanks again for your help . . .
