Archer VR200v connection to external fiber modem impossible?

Hi *,
a friend of mine just got his internet access upgraded from DSL to fiber. He's been using an Archer VR200v so far, has been working great.
Now the provider (Deutsche Telekom in this case) installed a fiber modem in his appartment. The DSL modem in the VR200v is not needed anymore, so we switched the router to "WLAN router" mode.
I figured all we needed to do is connect the output of the fiber modem to the 4th LAN/EWAN port, enter the login data somewhere and all should be OK; but as soon as you switch to "WLAN Router" mode, there's no option anywhere to enter login data. If you do the "Quick Setup", you can only chose between ADSL and VDSL as your connection type, but there's no option to do PPPoE over the EWAN port. This option only seems to be available for TP-Link's WLAN-Router devices (the ones without internal modem).
Is this true? On the website and on the box it is explicitly states that the device can be connected to external modems via the EWAN port:
https://www.tp-link.com/de/products/details/cat-15_Archer-VR200v.html
Maybe you can connect it, but that's pretty useless if there are no authetication methods available...
Am I missing something? Is this feature hidden somewhere not obvious? You can check the simulator:

I don't see it...
Best regards,
Wiggy
