Hi to all!

I tried several times, from several differente O. S. and browser to upgrade the firmware.
Always the same answer: error code 4503

My actual firmware and hardware versions are:




I tried to upgrade with the versions in this page (obviously v4 version) https://www.tp-link.com/br/download/TL-WR840N_V4.html#Firmware

That's the label on the back of the router:




Anybody knows what is the problem?

Hello all, this is a quite old thread, but I agree with @hijani that whenever you download and or upgrade the firmware on a TP-Link device, do remember to verify its country code and hardware version before upgrading, ensure you choose the correct firmware to install on your device.

 

Back to the initial question that some of you failed to upgrade the firmware on the TL-WR840N<W> v4.0, I guess this is special and customized hardware that was developed for the local Service Providers, so you cannot install the generic firmware on it.

 

If any of you can confirm this for others, we would appreciate that.

Since your current hardware version is V4, you can only update firmware of V4.
Did you download the firmware of V4 and update it?

Different hardware versions can not be updated.

Yes, V4!

I took I picture of the label of the router:





there's a (W) close to the model version: it means something?

I didn't find in tplink site a firmware with (W)...

Reading further on the web I discovered that model v4 (W) comes with the possibility, by default, of uploading config file by tftp server. Maybe it is possible to update firmware by the same way. Anybody knows?

Hi There... I have the exactly same situation here...

I have two Routers

One TL-WR840N





And one recently acquired TL-WR840N





I had visited the link https://www.tp-link.com/br/download/TL-WR840N_V4.html#Firmware in order to download the firmware corresponding to my hardware version.

The file https://static.tp-link.com/TL-WR840N(BR)_V4_170512.zip has been successfully applied in the TL-WR840N and now this hardware have the following status:

Versão de Firmware:0.9.1 4.16 v004c.0 Build 170512 Rel.41231n


Versão de Hardware:TL-WR840N v4 00000004

But when I try perform the firmware upgrade on the TL-WR840N I ended up with the error 4503

Erro de Código: 4503



O arquivo enviado não foi aceito pelo dispositivo. (Sent file wasn't accepted by the device)

What I can do in order to have my brand new device updated with the same firmware that I have my old hardware...

Guys unplug the router from the phone line, you should only have the RJ45 connected from router to PC, HTH.

Thanks for the hint... but this router doesn't have "phone line" jack...

There is only LAN's/WAN port on it.

And of course i'm trying to update this firmware thru Ethernet port.

After trying to fix it a lot times, finally I found a solution. Yeah, you was right, correct solution is updating throught tftp server. 

Weird bug, I can't understand why all files .bin don't was working, but now I can upgrade or downgrade! Finally!

how did you actually do it via the ftftp? I tried it a couple of times with numerous ftfp servers but no results. please advise

Thanks man that was simple enough just had to unplug from Internet. No more error.
