Archer C7 - Wifi signal strength dropped
Hi,
I installed an Archer C7 primarily to get better wired performance from my Virgin SH3.
However, I am surprised to find that the WiFi performance is worse. The original setup was SH3 upstairs and an old TP-Link W1043 downstairs as an access point.
The setup is much the same with the Archer being next to the SH3 and that feeding the W1043 instead of the SH3.
Problem is the signal which I now get from the W1043 is much weaker than before.
Is this because Archer is 801.11ac and W1043 is 801.11n? Would I be advised to get an 'ac' access point?
Thanks

Hi,
The Archer is upstairs next to my PC and probably won't reach all extremities of the house with wifi.
The W1043 is hardwired downstairs in access mode.
This seemed to work quite well when I only had the SH3 but doesn't seem to work now very well.

With C7 connected to the virgin hub, first please ensure that the C7 works fine, where you can get internet; to improve the wifi performance, you can follow the instructions below:
a. adjust the position of atenna: https://www.tp-link.com/en/faq-455.html
b. optimize some wireless settings: https://www.tp-link.com/en/faq-468.html & https://www.tp-link.com/en/faq-469.html
For the 1043ND, you can make it work as an access point. Do not forget to change its IP address. https://www.tp-link.com/en/download/TL-WR1043N.html#video

Hi Kevin_Z,
Thanks for the suggestions, most of which were already implemented. The main network signal is better, though still not as strong as before and the guest network is hopeless.
For example, when downstairs, viewing available networks, the main one will have full bars and the guest one hovers between one and two? Is it because the WR1043 does not support this feature?
Confused.
