Model: Deco M5
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.2.8

Hello,

after scanning my network i saw that the deco has an open ssh port (tcp/22).

Why is this port open?

How can i log in?

Is it necessary?

Greeting

Holger

Hi,

The firmware can support SSH because we added the support of Deco.

Deco APP is  used to manage and configure routers; to guarantee the safety of the communication process; we use SSH to encrypt the data. So the SSH is available on the firmware.

What’s more, we have already considered the security issue, and have already blocked the related SSH tunnels and commands, which makes this SSH available only to the Deco APP.  Other SSH clients cannot control the router via commands.

So please rest assured that the SSH will never cause any safety issue on your device

If you still have any further doubt about this, please be free to let me know.

Have a nice day.

@Kevin_Z I have a followup question which is connected to the original one but kind of want to accomplish somewhat opposite thing.

My question is if there is a way to access Deco unit acting as a router via SSH from WAN? Ofcourse I would like also to change the dfeault ssh port as well (as I noticed a lot of scanns from WAN trying to probe port 22).

Reason I ask is that on my previous router I used built-in ssh to use it for tunneling and being able to use it as a proxy without having to go all the way towards my other machines (qnap, linux server etc.) in order to establish a tunnel.
